Money comes for Villas-Boas in sack race

6/5 that he will not be in charge at Stamford Bridge on the final day of this season

Punters are backing Andre Villas-Boas to be out of a job in the near future following Chelsea’s sixth defeat in nine games.

The Blues lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night and Villas-Boas was quick to condemn his players’ performance, also highlighting the next four weeks as pivotal to his side’s season.

“For our Premier League to be alive we need to make the most of the December games,” said the Portuguese.

“We need to up the game and play with the ultimate desire. In this period [December] we have games against Newcastle, Manchester City and Tottenham and if we are able to do that then we can get it back on track.”

Villas-Boas has come under increasing pressure throughout his side’s poor run of form and has now been backed into 11/2 with Stan James to be the first managerial casualty in the Premier League.

The same bookmaker offer odds of 6/5 that he will not be in charge at Stamford Bridge on the final day of this season.

“We need to get our fans behind us and get the emotion right. You can feel Stamford Bridge has become anxious,” added Villas-Boas.

“We have two big games at home where we need our fans behind us and I'm sure they'll do exactly that.”
