Montenegro v England Betting Tips

The Chelsea midfielder is in a rich vein of form

It has been far from pretty at times but England are on the verge of qualifying for Euro 2012 by virtue of topping their group.

It had looked as though Montenegro would push England all the way but internal wrangling that led to manager Zlatko Kranjcar – father of Niko – being sacked appears to have derailed their campaign. And in doing so has all but handed England the opportunity to cruise through to next summer’s tournament.

Fabio Capello is reportedly considering handing a debut to youngster Phil Jones who has impressed for Manchester United since the start of the season. Danny Welbeck could also start up fornt alongside Wayne Rooney as the Italian ponders reverting to a 4-4-2 formation.

New Montenegro Head Coach Banko Brnovic will be able to call upon the services of Manchester City’s Stefan Savic, Blackburn’s Simon Vukcevic and Juventus’s Mirko Vucinic. But perhaps his most dangerous weapon will be young Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic.

The 21-year-old scored his nation’s goal in their 2-1 loss to Wales and has two goals in five games in Serie A for Fiorentina this season. He looks a good value bet at odds of 10/3, with Bet365, to score at anytime in the match.

England’s most potent goalscoring threat will come from the in-form Wayne Rooney, but he offers no value in the betting markets at odds of 11/10. Instead look to Frank Lampard at odds of 10/2 with William Hill. The Chelsea midfielder is in a rich vein of form having scored four goals in his last two games.

Had this game been played six months ago then an upset would certainly have been on the cards. But a lot has changed since these two teams played out a goalless draw at Wembley, and that is reflected in the Match Odds betting.

Nevertheless, England are still worth a punt at odds of 8/11 to sign off from their Euro 2012 qualification campaign with a win. The return to form of Super Frank may be just the tonic that they need.
