Nani Happy to Fight for Place in Team

The arrival of Young for a fee in the region of £20 million is thought to have pushed the Portuguese further down the pecking order

Manchester United winger Nani is willing to fight for his place in the Manchester United side and has welcomed the signing of winger Ashley Young.

Nani’s position in the United starting XI became tentative following the return to fitness of Antonio Valencia towards the back end of last season. The arrival of Young for a fee in the region of £20 million is thought to have pushed the Portuguese further down the pecking order, but the 24-year-old remains upbeat.

"Of course I have to welcome everyone they sign, I think Man Utd is a fantastic club," said Nani.

"When they bring in new players, they know if it is good for the team or not, and this (Young signing) has to help them.

"It is good for the team, we want more (players) to help us to win trophies."

Nani scored 10 goals in 50 appearances for the club last season and was seen as Cristiano Ronaldo’s natural successor. However, a host of other clubs are believed to be monitoring the player’s situation at Old Trafford.

The bookmakers have Arsenal as the 5/1 favourites to sign the player should he decide to leave The Red Devils. Juventus and Tottenham are 8/1 chances while the two Milan clubs can be backed at 10/1.
