Napoli v Man City: Citizens to edge Naples nail-biter

this game is likely to be a closely fought affair

Tuesday night brings together the two teams rivalling for the second spot in Group A behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich. Both Napoli and Manchester City will be eyeing this as a game that they can win, with City knowing a win would guarantee them qualification. A Napoli victory, however, would take it down to the last games when City entertain Bayern and Napoli travel to Spain to face Villarreal.

City have been one of the form teams in European football so far this season, dropping just two points in the league. Coming off another impressive victory against Newcastle, you would expect that City should have too much if Roberto Mancini plays his strongest possible eleven. If, indeed, he does then you would expect the main culprits to be up there for first goalscorer; Sergio Aguero seems to have dropped off slightly in the last few matches, meaning that the bet to bag first leans towards a man like Mario Balotelli. As he netted the opener in their last game against Newcastle over the weekend, it seems appropriate for him to carry on the good form and to break the deadlock at 13/2 with Paddy Power.

Turning attentions to Napoli, they are seventh in Serie A having had a solid start to their domestic campaign, but have recently dropped off only winning one of their last six games in all competitions. This stat is slightly skewed as they have faced Bayern Munich in two of those games. However, all three games that they have lost in the Italian top flight have all been by the solitary goal. This shows to me that this game is likely to be a closely fought affair. I believe that if City can carry on the way they have been playing in the Premier League, they have every chance of coming away with the all important three points that will secure them qualification to the latter stages of the competition.
