Newcastle cut to 4/1 for top-four finish

Spurs remain the odds-on favourites of the trio

Newcastle United are now as short as 4/1 for a top-four Premier League finish after a fifth consecutive victory moved The Magpies level on points with fourth-place Tottenham.

Alan Pardew’s side recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Bolton on Monday while Tottenham lost 2-1 at home to Norwich and Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham. Results that left Newcastle in fifth place on 59 points, two points clear of Chelsea and below Spurs by virtue of an inferior goal difference only.

Spurs remain the odds-on favourites of the trio to be playing Champions League football next season, with Ladbrokes offering odds of 8/13 on Harry Redknapp’s side securing a top-four finish.

The Tottenham boss has tasked his side with winning their remaining five league matches in order to hang on to their current position.

“We have got to look to win all five games really,” said the 65-year-old.

“Now it is a case of the team which has the best last five games and we have to make sure it's us.”

Spurs play QPR (a), Blackburn (h), Bolton (a), Aston Villa (a) and Fulham (h) in their remaining quintet of games. While Newcastle have Stoke (h) and Wigan (a) before a potentially pivotal away game against Chelsea, followed by the visit of Manchester City to Tyneside and a final-day trip to Everton.
