Oxlade-Chamberlain 4/6 to feature more than Arshavin
Following Arsene Wenger’s controversial decision to bring on Andrey Arshavin in place of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United, BetVictor have introduced a market on which player will play more minutes during the month of February.
The bookmaker think that the youngster will be involved for the Gunners more throughout next month and make him the 4/6 favourite, compared to the 11/10 available on Arshavin.
“I think we know where Robin Van Persie would put his money, but with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger defending his controversial decision it is not guaranteed that the 18-year-old will get more court time than the Russian captain,” said BetVictor spokesperson Charlie McCann.
Van Persie was caught on camera shouting “no” when Oxlade-Chamberlain was taken off but has today released a statement denying that he was being critical of the manager’s decision.
“I was not having a go at the boss on Sunday - I was just sad to see Alex leave the pitch as he just gave the assist for our only goal,” said the Dutchman.
“Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain had a calf injury. We did not know that but the boss did and brought Andrey Arshavin on.”
The 28-year-old scored his 19th Premier League goal of the season at the weekend and is now the 4/6 favourite to win the golden boot this season.
