Potential shock on the cards in Wiltshire

Swindon come into the game on a good run of form in the league

Third Round of the FA Cup weekend brings plenty of hope and excitement that the lower league teams can have their 15 minutes of fame by upsetting the odds and beating a team much higher in the league pyramid. This is the case at the County Ground as League 2 Swindon Town play host to Premier League strugglers Wigan Athletic.

Swindon come into the game on a good run of form in the league, currently lying fourth in the table and only three points outside of the automatic promotion places. Their home record is quite a formidable one, dropping a mere seven points out of a possible 33 and only the league leaders Crawley have scored more goals on their home patch (29). Their key so far this season has been their defence, conceding a league-low 19.

As for the Latics, they are very inconsistent, and it is always a hard task predicting which side Roberto Martinez will send out onto the field. They have gained impressive points at home to Liverpool and Chelsea, yet don’t back it by losing heavily to Manchester United and Sunderland in two of their last three games.

On paper, clearly Wigan should have too much quality for a side that play their football three tiers lower. However, the FA Cup is not that simple and I believe that Paulo Di Canio’s men have what it takes to cause a ‘cupset’. They can score goals and keep it tight which is the perfect balance to shock the men from Lancashire. The Swindon win, available at 2/1 with Victor Chandler, offers great value. Both teams to score could be the almost-guarantee wager here, however, with Coral offering 8/11 for neither team to keep a clean sheet.

A correct score of 2-1 for Swindon may be the way to go if you fancy putting a small stake on large odds. Totesport have this down at 11/1 which is a tempter for a pound or two.

Recommended Bet:

Swindon to win @ 2/1 with Victor Chandler

Both teams to score @ 8/11 with Coral
