Potters to prevail in battle of Britannia

Stoke have only managed to keep one clean sheet in eight league games

Stoke City host Blackburn Rovers in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday with both teams looking to end a poor sequence of results.

Wilson Palacios may make his first Premier League start for Stoke but Peter Crouch, Matthew Etherington and long-throw specialist Rory Delap will all face late fitness tests for the Potters.

Rovers manager Steve Kean will be without the suspended David Dunn whilst Chris Samba, Martin Olsson and Ryan Nelsen are all missing through injury.

Stoke have lost their last six games in all competitions and Tony Pulis will demand a positive response against a Blackburn side with no clean sheet in 15 games. However, only four teams have scored more away league goals than Blackburn and Yakubu has scored four times in his last four outings. Stoke have only managed to keep one clean sheet in eight league games and therefore both sides will look to take advantage of their opponent’s defensive frailties.

Neither of these two sides has ever taken fewer points from the opening 12 games of a Premier League season than their current respective tallies. The game is likely to be ultra-competitive as both teams search for a much needed confidence boost.

No Premier League team has picked up more yellow cards than Blackburn whilst only four have received more than Stoke. The disciplinary records of the two sides point towards a busy day for referee Mark Halsey.

Second-bottom Blackburn have won just three of their last 26 Premier League games and have not won at Stoke in over 21 years. The match promises to be a physical encounter and the home side look good value at 5/6 to pile more pressure on Steve Kean.
