Pressure mounts on Bruce

3/1 that Bruce is the next Premier League manager to be sacked

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is coming under increasing pressure from supporters following the loan sale of striker Asamoah Gyan to Al Ain.

The Black Cats are without a win in their opening four Premier League games and also lost to local rivals Newcastle in their first home game of the season. Now the departure of last season’s star striker has left fans bewildered at the club’s direction and in particular their manager.

“We have had a discussion with him and he needs now to focus and get himself back on track again and be the Asamoah Gyan we know he is capable of,” said Bruce on Friday.

Then, on the morning of Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, came the news that Gyan had moved to UAE side Al Ain on a season-long loan deal.

“I had a conversation with Gyan 48 hours ago, with his agent too – I shook him by the hand, he wanted to play here, stay here because the nonsense had gone on too long. He shook me by the hand,” said Bruce after the game.

“Draw your own conclusions; he left the Premier League to go to the United Arab Emirates. Sometimes things disappoint you in football which are unbelievable.”

The Monday morning papers are now suggesting that Bruce’s tenure at the Stadium of Light could be coming to an end forcing bookmakers to slash their odds.

Sky Bet are currently offering odds of 3/1 that Bruce is the next Premier League manager to be sacked. While Victor Chandler go 5/4 that he is not in charge of the club on the last day of the season.
