Pressure mounts on Coyle

Stan James now go as short as 7/2

Owen Coyle is coming under increasing pressure at Bolton following a sixth consecutive Premier League defeat at the weekend.

The fixture generator wasn’t kind to Bolton this season as they have been forced to face five of last season’s top six finishers in their opening seven games. But the resounding manner of losses to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United combined with a home defeat to Norwich have set alarm bells ringing at the Reebok Stadium.

Things do appear, on paper at least, to get a little easier in the coming weeks with games against Wigan, Sunderland and Swansea. Coyle is hopeful that they can turn things around.

“The recent results have happened and we are all disappointed,” said the Bolton manager.

“But coming out of the international break we start with Wigan away and follow that with teams that are there or thereabouts. We have to bring everything we have got - the quality and commitment - together for the full 90 minutes in those games.”

Coyle’s odds on being the next Premier League manager to lose his job have been slashed following Sunday’s loss to Chelsea. From a generally available 20/1 Stan James now go as short as 7/2 on the former Burnley boss being the first amongst his peers to collect his P45.

Blackburn manager Steve Kean remains the odds-on favourite following their 4-0 loss to Manchester City. Steve Bruce is the 4/1 second-favourite after an uninspiring 2-2 home draw against West Brom.
