Punters back McCarthy in sack race
Mick McCarthy is now the odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job after Wolves slipped to their sixth home defeat of the season, against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Wanderers came back from 1-0 down to lead at half-time, but two second-half Robbie Keane strikes, either side of a Karl Henry red card, led The Villans to a 3-2 win and left Wolves in the relegation zone.
Ladbrokes reported on Saturday evening that they had been forced to cut their odds on McCarthy being the next Premier League manager to lose his job to 7/4 from 5/2.
However, money has continued to come for the Molineux boss over the course of the weekend and he is now odds-on with bookmakers across the board.
“The odds suggest McCarthy's inches away from the sack with every result. If Wolves' poor form continues it'll be a case of when, and not if Mick leaves,” said Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes.
Wolves are now in to 5/6 to be relegated this season and 9/2 to finish the campaign at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Steve Kean managed to relieve some of the considerable pressure on his shoulders with an important point away at Everton. However, it wasn’t enough to keep Rovers out of the relegation zone as wins for Bolton and QPR saw them leapfrog the Ewood Park club.
Kean is now out to 9/2 to be the next top flight boss to get the boot, while Chelsea’s draw at Norwich saw Villas-Boas shortened to 6/1 in the same market with Paddy Power.
