Punters wary of Redknapp court case

Stan James offer 5/2 that Redknapp won't be in charge on final day of season.

Money is beginning to dribble in in a variety of markets that suggests punters are considering the possibility that Harry Redknapp’s tax evasion trial may not go the way that the Tottenham boss would hope.

Stan James have, interestingly, opened a market on whether Redknapp will still be in charge of Spurs on the final day of this season, and offer odds of 5/2 that he won’t. He is still a heavy odds-on price, 2/7, to still be in the White Hart Lane dugout at the end of the campaign, but those odds certainly suggests that there is some doubt.

The bookmaker have also opened a market on who will be the next permanent manager of the north London club, making current Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho their 4/1 favourite. Followed by a former Los Blancos supremo, Fabio Capello, at odds of 13/2.

There has also been interest in Redknapp in the Next Premier League Manager to Leave markets. Ladbrokes now make the 64-year-old their 7/1 third-favourite – behind Mick McCarthy (1/2) and Steve Kean (4/1) – to be the next top-flight boss to lose his job, while other bookmakers fluctuate between 8/1 and 12/1.

The trial, which is just a few days old, is set to go on for a total of two weeks, keeping the Spurs boss away from the day-to-day running of first-team affairs. But assistant Kevin Bond has confirmed that Redknapp will still pick the team for this Friday’s FA Cup tie at Watford.

“Yes, he will be at the match and yes, he will pick the team,” said Bond.

“It's a similar scenario to when Harry had small medical procedure. We didn't have him for a week or so leading up to the Fulham game.

“The training carries on as normal, so there's not a lot of difference except that Harry's not here in the day.”

Spurs are quoted at odds of 1/2 to see off The Hornets at Vicarage Road, and are 6/1 to go all the way and win the FA Cup.
