QPR v Newcastle Betting Tips

Over 2.5 goals is available to back at odds of 6/5

Joey Barton will make his Queens Park Rangers debut against former employers Newcastle this evening, and he’ll have a point to prove.

Barton was forced out of St James’ Park by the Newcastle board for his Twitter rants that criticised the club’s transfer policy. He now has an opportunity to show Mike Ashley and co. that they made a big mistake in letting him leave.

An influx of players at Loftus Road on transfer deadline day means that Shaun Wright-Phillips, Anton Ferdinand and Luke Young could all also make their debuts.

The Geordies should be able to welcome back Shola Ameobi and Davide Santon could make his debut but Mike Williamson and Haris Vuckic are unavailable. Hatem Ben Arfa has returned to training but he isn’t expected to return to first team action for another couple of weeks.

Despite an indifferent start to their return to the Premier League QPR fans are optimistic following the spate of new arrivals. The prospect of Barton and Wright-Phillips linking up with Adel Taarabt is an exciting one and could see The Hoops adopt a more expansive style of football.

Paddy Power make the home side the 6/4 favourites in the QPR v Newcastle match odds betting market. Newcastle are 15/8 and the draw is 9/4.

A more appealing bet, however, comes in the goals betting market. Over 2.5 goals is available to back at odds of 6/5, and with Neil Warnock’s new attacking options there are solid grounds to make that the standout bet of the night.

Barton will be keen to give the Newcastle hierarchy a first-hand look of what they’ll be missing this season. William Hill make him an 11/2 chance to score at any time tonight and 14/1 to get the first goal of the game. Would fate have it any other way?
