Rangers lead Rodallega race

"Whatever could happen over the next 48 hours will be in the best interest of Wigan."

Bookmaker Sky Bet make Queens Park Rangers their Even money favourite to sign Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega this January after Latics boss Roberto Martinez admitted the Colombian could leave the club.

Rodallega signed for Wigan in the 2009 January transfer window when Steve Bruce chose to pay £4.5 million to bring him to the DW Stadium from Mexican side Necaxa. Martinez is understandably keen to hold on to the talented 26-year-old, but may be forced to cash in on the player this winter and avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

“When you get into a position when your contract is short-term with the club it is a completely different situation,” admitted Martinez.

“We are in a position where no-one is bigger than the football club.

“Whatever could happen over the next 48 hours will be in the best interest of Wigan. Every individual situation is going to be down to that measurement”

QPR are thought to be leading the race to sign the player as Mark Hughes looks to add some fresh blood to his newly inherited squad.

Fulham, at 2/1, and West Brom at 4/1 are the only other two clubs quoted in Sky Bet’s Hugo Rodallega January transfer market.
