Rangers pull off 750/1 comeback

Rangers are now a 5/7 chance to be relegated

Queens Park Rangers were backed at odds of 750/1 for victory on betting exchange Betfair when 2-0 down to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Rs looked to be heading to a fifth defeat in six games when Dirk Kuyt struck to give Liverpool a two-goal lead with 18 minutes remaining. The visitors were then backed at the minimum price of 1/100 on the exchange to close out the win, but Shaun Derry’s 77th minute header gave the hosts hope.

When Djibril Cisse headed the equaliser with four minutes to go it appeared that Mark Hughes’s side had salvaged a vital point in their battle to avoid relegation. But the Loftus Road club weren’t done just yet and when Jose Enrique failed to deal with an innocuous through ball Jamie Mackie slotted the ball underneath Pepe Reina to steal all three points.

Rangers are now a 5/7 chance to be relegated, having traded as low as 1/4 this season.

Elsewhere on the night Manchester City came from a goal down at home to Chelsea to win 2-1. Gary Cahill’s deflected shot put the visitors in front and appeared to almost hand the title to Manchester United for a period of 20 minutes, but Sergio Aguero equalised from the spot before David Silva sealed the points and left City at odds of 6/4 with Paddy Power for the title.

Arsenal are now a 1/7 chance to finish in the top four after they recorded their sixth successive victory with a win a Goodison Park. Spurs remain odds-on in the same market, at 2/7, but a 1-1 draw with Stoke extended their run without a win to four matches. Harry Redknapp’s side go to Stamford Bridge this Saturday for a crucial match in the race for a top-four finish.
