Redknapp favourite for England role

Paddy Power make Redknapp the 5/6 favourite

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he would find it difficult to turn down the offer to become England manager should the FA approach him.

Current England manager Fabio Capello’s contract expires at the end of the country’s Euro 2012 campaign – which looks likely to be at some time in Poland and Ukraine next summer – and Redknapp is the strong betting favourite to succeed the Italian.

However, the current Spurs boss acknowledges that it would be a difficult job to take on should England go on to win the European championships.

“Yes, it would be a poisoned chalice. I say good luck to whoever takes over if they win it - because it would be like following Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United,” said Redknapp.

“I'm not pushing myself for the job; whoever gets offered the job, if they're an Englishman it would be hard to say no because it's your country.

“It would be difficult for any Englishman to turn the job down.”

Although the former Portsmouth, Southampton and West Ham boss is adamant that the FA has not approached him, the bookmakers clearly see Redknapp as the standout candidate.

Paddy Power make Redknapp the 5/6 favourite in the next England manager betting. Roy Hodgson and Martin O’Neill are co-second-favourites at odds of 8/1, followed by Jose Mourinho at 11/1.
