Reds to book Wembley return

The two sides have met six times in the FA Cup

Liverpool host Stoke City at Anfield on Sunday as the two sides battle it out for a place in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Lucas Leiva, Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger are still out injured but Craig Bellamy may also be available for Kenny Dalglish.

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch is expected to return to Tony Pulis' starting line-up in place of the suspended Ricardo Fuller after the Jamaican striker was sent off during the defeat to Chelsea last weekend. Pulis has also confirmed that Thomas Sorensen will start in goal for the visitors.

The two sides have met six times in the FA Cup – Stoke have failed to win any of them and have failed to score in all six. Liverpool have been in impressive form in cup competition this season having already knocked The Potters out of the Carling Cup on their way to lifting the trophy at Wembley last month.

The Reds have scored 27 goals in 10 cup games this campaign. In contrast, they only scored thirty goals in 27 league games before Steven Gerrard netted a hat-trick in midweek during the Merseyside derby win over Everton. The 3-0 win ended a run of three consecutive league defeats, leaving Liverpool’s hopes of a top-four finish in tatters. A domestic cup double would be ample consolation and the Reds are currently second-favourites at 11/4 to win the FA Cup.

Stoke have avoided Premier League opposition in each round of the Cup so far and last season’s runners-up have conceded in just two of their last eight FA Cup games. Liverpool’s defensive record this season has been bettered only by Manchester City and Anfield has seen fewer league goals than any other top-flight stadium. Boylesports offer very generous odds of 10/11 for fewer than 2.5 goals to be scored during the game while Ladbrokes bravely offer 7/1 for a 2-0 home win. That price may not last too long given that no other bookmaker offers in excess of 11/2. In any case, Liverpool should have too much for the Potters and a home win of any kind can be backed at 4/9 with Paddy Power.
