Reliant Robin to shoot down Everton

the Toffees have now lost seven of their last 10 games

Fresh from a midweek rest for the Champions League defeat to Olympiakos, Arsenal’s first-teamers will return to host Everton at the Emirates Stadium hoping to continue their much-improved domestic form.

Having taken 19 points from a possible 21 in the last seven games, the Gunners have given themselves renewed hope of a top-four finish. They will be without the injured André Santos, Bacary Sagna, Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson, leaving Arsène Wenger’s squad with no natural full-backs from which to select. Four central defenders are likely to spread across Arsenal's defensive line and, if fit, Everton’s Leon Osman and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov will have an opportunity to expose their vulnerability in wide positions.

Following the 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City last weekend, the Toffees have now lost seven of their last 10 games while only three teams have scored fewer Premier League goals this season. Tim Cahill is still seeking his first goal in almost twelve months while Louis Saha remains a doubt with a thigh injury. Victor Anichebe is likely to be missing and therefore Everton’s hopes of success on Saturday would appear to rest almost entirely on the shoulders of their defenders. Phil Jagielka vented his frustrations this week at his club’s lack of funds and the England international would be keen to impress Arsène Wenger in light of the Frenchman’s reported interest in the Summer. Top scorer Robin Van Persie’s form will be crucial and he is available at 10/11 to score at any time during the game.

Despite Arsenal’s suggested defensive frailties, they have conceded just five goals in seven games at the Emirates. Ladbrokes offer a generous 7/1 for Arsenal to win 1-0 and, with league leaders Manchester City up next for the Gunners, three points will be crucial here. It is difficult to make a case for anything other than a home win and, at 4/7, Arsenal look good value to continue their impressive run.
