Rovers go odds-on for relegation

BetVictor now offer odds of 5/6 on Rovers going down

Blackburn are now odds-on across the board to be relegated from the Premier League after Andy Carroll’s late header deprived Steve Kean’s side of a vital point in their battle to avoid the drop.

BetVictor now offer odds of 5/6 on Rovers going down, with Wolves seemingly consigned to the Championship at odds of 1/100, Wigan at 2/5 for the drop, QPR 4/6 and Bolton 13/8.

Rovers went 2-0 down inside the opening 16 minutes, but were thrown a lifeline when goalkeeper Alexander Doni was sent off for bringing down Junior Hoilett in the box. Yakubu failed to convert the subsequent penalty but made amends by drawing his side level with goals either side of half-time.

It looked as though Kean’s men would earn a valuable point, but when Carroll stooped to head past Paul Robinson in injury time there was no way back for the Ewood Park club.

A point would have moved Rovers out of the relegation zone and up to 16th in the Premier League table, and the Blackburn boss saw it as an opportunity missed.

“Tonight was a massive opportunity missed for us,” said Kean.

“We felt the way we got back into the game, considering we missed a penalty, to get back to 2-2, we felt if anybody was going to score it was us.”

Blackburn go to The Liberty Stadium on Saturday to face Swansea, before a home game against Norwich the following weekend.
