RVP 5/2 to be MVP

The Arsenal forward is way out in front in the Premier League top goalscorer stakes

William Hill make Robin van Persie their 5/2 second-favourite to win this season’s PFA Player of the Year Award, with Manchester City’s David Silva the 2/1 favourite for the accolade.

The Arsenal forward is way out in front in the Premier League top goalscorer stakes with 22 goals so far this campaign, and is quoted at odds of 4/11 for the golden boot. However, it is the Manchester City midfield maestro who heads the betting for the PFA award.

“When City are playing well it is usually because Silva is creating chaos in opposition defences,” said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.

“He has been consistently one of the best players on view in the Premier League so far this season and must be a leading contender for the honour.”

Gareth Bale won the award last season and is a 7/1 chance to become only the third player in history – after Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry – to pick up the honour in consecutive seasons.

Demba Ba is, perhaps undoubtedly, proving to be the signing of the season as his goals continue to fire Newcastle up the table. The Senegalese is quoted at 16/1 to be honoured by his fellow professionals.

Manchester City players dominate the top of the market with Yaya Toure (12/1), Joe Hart (16/1) and Vincent Kompany (16/1) all in the top eight. Wayne Rooney, at 16/1, is the only other player at odds shorter than 20/1.
