Slow starters to be level at interval

Both sides have only been leading once at half time in their last six matches

Eighth placed Norwich host second placed Manchester United at Carrow Road on Sunday and we are anticipating a tight, edgy game.

Norwich could not have dreamt of a better start to the season so far. They have been very hard to beat, especially at home where they have only lost three times. United, meanwhile, are hot on their Manchester rivals’ tales and they do appear to be building some momentum to their campaign. However, they had a very poor showing against Ajax on Thursday night, albeit with quite a few stars missing. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will most definitely be requiring a reaction from his players.

They have been the form side on their travels this season only losing once so far so the signs there are good. However, when the two sides met earlier on this season at Old Trafford the 2-0 scoreline certainly flattered Manchester United. I anticipate this game to go much the same way as that fixture with both sides not wanting to give much away in the early stages.

Norwich will be without Daniel Ayala, Jonathan Howson, Decland Rudd and Marc Tierney for this fixture as they are all out injured. Zak Whitbread remains a doubt also and faces a late fitness test to be involved. Sir Alex Ferguson’s list of absentees had begun to shorten in recent weeks but they have picked up another couple of injuries and he must be wondering when his luck will change. The players missing for this clash are Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard, Michael Owen, Antonio Valenica and captain Nemaja Vidic. Anderson and Wayne Rooney will also face late fitness tests but are expected to feature in some capacity.

When we look into each side’s recent form we can see that neither has been particularly fast starters in their matches. Both sides have only been leading once at half time in their last six matches so our selection will be a draw at half time.
