Stoke v Fulham: Goals at a premium

All of Stokes home games this season have finished with fewer than 2.5 goals

Eighth placed Stoke host twelfth placed Fulham at the Britannia stadium on Saturday in what should be a closely contested match. Given the fact that the sides are so closely matched and that both have been distracted early on this season with the Europa League our selection will not be coming from the ninety minute betting.

There is however one thing that stands out like a sore thumb when you look at both teams and that is the lack of goals that they score. Stoke have only managed four goals in their opening seven matches and Fulham have scored a very average ten from their seven games; six of which came in one match against QPR.

Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant both face fitness tests which again is a worry in terms of scoring goals; both are vital in this area as Stoke often rely on crosses from wide areas to supply their big men upfront. And talking of big men Kenwyne Jones is also struggling with an injury and is a 50/50 to feature.

Aaron Hughes returns to bolster the Fulham defence, whilst £10.6M front man Bryan Ruiz is out with a knee injury.

Stoke’s strikers have not been firing at all so far and their top scorer this season is shared between four players (Crouch, Jones, Shotton & Walters) with a measly one goal apiece.  Given the fact that statistically Fulham have the fifth best defensive record (averaging one goal against per game) in the Premier League so far it doesn’t fair very well for Stoke in front of goal.

Taking all of the above into consideration our selection will come in the form of Under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6.

All three of Stokes home games this season have finished with fewer than 2.5 goals and two of Fulham’s three away games have also seen less than three goals.

If we look at the head to head stats between the two sides the figures read the same. All of the last four meetings and six of the last seven between the two teams have produced less than 2.5 goals.

Recommended Bet:

Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6 General
