Toffees can compound Reds misery

Dalgish's side can no longer hide behind an 'unbeaten home record'

Liverpool’s unbeaten home record evaporated with Robin van Persie’s late strike 10 days ago and with it went The Reds’ dreams of a top four finish this season. Sunderland compounded their misery with a narrow victory at the Stadium of Light on Saturday and now a third consecutive loss for Kenny Dalglish’s men would see them slip below Everton in the Premier League table.

David Moyes continues to do a remarkable job at Goodison Park and has once again taken The Toffees to the cusp of a top-six spot despite a disappointing start to the season. Victory over Tottenham at the weekend completed a hat-trick of recent triumphs over three of the Premier League’s top five; extending their unbeaten run to nine games in the process.

Everton will have Steven Pienaar available again after he missed the win over Spurs due to the terms of his loan agreement. The home side could welcome back Steven Gerrard following a hamstring injury, while Glen Johnson, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll could all return to the starting XI. Daniel Agger and Lucas remain unavailable.

The loss to Arsenal last week means that Dalgish’s side can no longer hide behind an ‘unbeaten home record’. The reality of winning just four of 15 games at Anfield is starting to become costly and I certainly wouldn’t be backing the home team at odds of 8/11 here. The 11/4 that Bet365 offer in the Draw No Bet market has to be the play on the match result.

But the bet of the night must surely be BetVictor’s 4/5 on there being fewer than 2.5 goals in the game. Nine of the last 10 Merseyside derbies have finished with two goals or fewer, Anfield has seen less goals than any other Premier League ground this season and Everton score an average of just one goal per game away from Goodison Park this season.
