Torres 12/1 to keep shooting blanks

it is difficult to see the Spaniard keeping his place in the team when Didier Drogba returns

Sportingbet have opened up a market on when Fernando Torres will next find the back of the net in a Chelsea shirt, and make it a 12/1 chance that he doesn’t score another Premier League goal this season.

The Blues striker has now failed to score a league goal since netting the opener in a 4-1 win over Swansea back in September and although his manager continues to stand by him it is difficult to see the Spaniard keeping his place in the team when Didier Drogba returns from international duty.

“Fernando has been having a tremendous team impact, we are not just looking for Fernando the goalscorer, but Fernando the team player,” said Andre Villas-Boas last week.

The 2010 World Cup winner’s lack of confidence was highlighted in the 3-3 draw against Manchester United on Sunday. With the score at 3-2 and Torres bearing down on goal he took an apparently unnecessary extra touch that ultimately saw the chance amount to nothing.

But despite his lack of form and confidence Sportingbet still offer odds of 6/4 that he will make a return to scoring ways this coming weekend against Everton at Goodison Park. Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture is then not until the end of the month when they face Bolton, it is a 15/8 chance that he gets his next Premier League goal in that game.

If you feel that the drought will go on past that then it is 7/1 that he scores his next league goal against West Brom, 10/1 that it comes against Stoke and 22/1 for it to be against Manchester City in mid-March.
