Torres 5/1 to be left in the cold

patience with the 27-year-old could be running low

William Hill offer odds of 5/1 that striker Fernando Torres does not start any of the next four games for Chelsea after the Spaniard was substituted at half-time in Saturday’s draw with Birmingham.

The £50 million striker was replaced by Didier Drogba, who had returned from international duty earlier in the week, and could now find himself slipping down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

“It was a real indignity that Torres - apparently fit, if not firing on all cylinders again - should have been taken off at half time and it could suggest that he will no longer be first choice up front now that Drogba is back in town,” said Graham Sharpe of William Hill.

Torres has not scored for The Blues since netting the opener in their 4-1 win over Swansea back in September of last year. And with manager Andre Villas-Boas coming under increasing pressure to produce results his patience with the 27-year-old could be running low.

William Hill offer odds of 5/6 that he starts against Napoli this Tuesday, 5/2 that the next game he starts is against Bolton at the weekend, 5/1 that it is against West Brom the following weekend and 8/1 the next time he is named in the starting XI is in the replay against Birmingham.

Villas-Boas is now out to 5/4 to still be in the Chelsea job at the beginning of next season, and as short as 4/7 to have left the club.
