Tottenham v Arsenal Betting Tips

In three north London derbies last season there were 16 goals

The north London derby follows a slightly different blueprint to most other local derbies. While tough tackles, an intense atmosphere, fast pace and high levels of passion are as commonplace as any other derby, this one, unlike others, tends to produce plenty of goals.

The last eight Arsenal versus Tottenham matches have produced no fewer than 36 goals. In three meetings last season alone there were 16 goals. The defensive frailties that the Gunners have displayed so far this season suggest that the trends will continue this Sunday.

Considering the historical data and Arsenal’s poor defensive record this season, the 4/6 on Over 2.5 goals offered by Sky Bet looks a very good bet. As does the 7/4 offered by Betfred on there being more than 3.5 goals.

Harry Redknapp will recall some of his senior players having rested them for the midweek win over Shamrock Rovers. Emmanuel Adebayor being the most notable of which as he lines up against his former employers.

William Gallas won’t be able to do the same as he suffered an injury setback in the week. Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson are also unavailable.

Theo Walcott is expected to return for the Gunners while the fitness of Gervinho, Laurent Koscielny and Yossi Benayoun will be assessed as late as possible.

Home advantage sees Tottenham made deserved betting favourites, but the 11/10 offered by Bet365 is too short. By contrast the 13/5 that Victor Chandler are offering for an Arsenal win is appealing. Arsene Wenger’s side have now won three on the bounce and although none of those opposition have been of Spurs’ calibre it is a platform from which they can build.

Come the full-time whistle a back of Arsenal at such odds could look a very shrewd investment. Or it could look extremely foolish. I’ll take my chances.
