Tottenham v Hearts Betting Preview

The home side are available to back at odds of just 3/10

After a first-leg demolition job at Tynecastle last week, this tie is over bar the shouting.

Tottenham waltzed to a 5-0 win in Edinburgh last Thursday and they looked as though they could have won by more had they fully exerted themselves. The pace, movement and sharp passing of the Spurs frontline proved to be way too much for the Jambos in frront of their voiceferous crowd.

It was hard to foresee how the London riots could have affected a team from Scotland; but they did. Had Spurs’ opening game against Everton not been postponed then it is likely that Harry Redknapp would have fielded a much weaker team for the first leg of this Europa League tie. As it went, Redknapp felt his players needed the match practice and a near enough full strength side was fielded. Don’t expect that to be the case this midweek.

With the tie already sewn up and Manchester City visiting The Lane on Sunday Spurs are likely to play a weakened side here. But so are Hearts. Manager Paulo Sergio is not deluding himself with thinking they are still in this tie and is also going to take the opportunity to blood some youngsters; making eight changes to his starting XI.

“I didn't have time to have friendly matches in pre-season so it's something I have to do,” said Sergio.

“The players need to compete. Some of them are coming back from injury and others haven't played for us much before.”

The home side are available to back at odds of just 3/10 in the Tottenham v Hearts match betting market, while Spurs to be leading at half time and full time perhaps offers better value at 8/11.

18-year-old striker Harry Kane is expected to start up font for Spurs and can be backed at odds of 4/1 to open the scoring. Last season’s top scorer Rudi Skacel is expected to return to the Hearts starting line-up and is available to back at 16/1 to open the scoring.
