United 6/1 to make Modric swoop

Ince believes United should be in the market for a creative midfielder

Following the news that Darren Fletcher will take an extended break from football due to illness, speculation has arisen that Manchester United will delve into the transfer market this January.

Former Red Devils captain Paul Ince believes United should be in the market for a creative midfielder, rather than a combative one that many are suggesting necessary.

“You're not going to get players like Roy Keane or Bryan Robson, those players aren't around anymore,” said Ince

“The game has changed since then and you don't get those type of characters, so he's got to look at another way of controlling the midfield and I think that can come from creativity in someone like Luka Modric or Andres Iniesta, they are the players I would be looking at if I was Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I'm sure Sir Alex will take stock and he'll be looking at what type of player he will need in January and it won't just be in midfield, I'm sure he's looking at a centre-half with Vidic being out.”

United are currently quoted at odds of 6/1 to sign Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric in the upcoming January transfer window. The Croatian was the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout the summer, before opting to stay at White Hart Lane.

Another player who may fall under Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar is Lille midfielder Eden Hazard. The 20-year-old Belgian has been coveted by many of Europe’s top clubs and is also quoted at odds of 6/1 by Sky Bet to move to Old Trafford this winter.
