United favourite to sign Modric as rumours circulate

Modric is currently on international duty at Euro 2012

Manchester united are now the 1/3 favourites with Sky Bet to sign Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric this summer as the Friday morning papers suggest that the Croatian is close to completing a £25million switch.

Although Modric is currently on international duty at Euro 2012 The Sun, amongst others, report that he will complete his move from Tottenham to Old Trafford upon his return, “barring any last-minute interventions.”

Sir Alex Ferguson has already captured Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa for a fee of around £17million this summer, but lost out on midfielder Eden Hazard at the last minute when the Belgian opted to sign for European champions Chelsea instead.

United’s hierarchy appear to have decided that they will need to spend big in this transfer window in order to keep tabs with champions Manchester City and re-establish themselves on the continental stage. A move for Everton defender Leighton Baines is also said to be on the cards and BetVictor quote odds of just 1/6 that the England international signs for The Red Devils.

BetVictor also make United the 5/2 second favourites for next season’s Premier League title, with City priced at just 11/10 to retain their crown.
