United odds-on to bounce back at Villa Park

Ferguson's men have a phenomenal Premier League record at Villa Park

Manchester United are the strong odds-on betting favourites to bounce back to winning ways when they face Aston Villa at Vila Park in this Saturday’s evening kick-off.

A resolute, and often fortunate, Newcastle rear-guard managed to steal a point from The Red Devils last weekend. A result that in the end maintained a five-point gap between United and neighbours Manchester City at the Premier League’s summit, but will be seen by most as dropped points in the title race.

Sir Alex Ferguson is without Dimitar Berbatov following an ankle injury picked up in the midweek defeat to Crystal Palace. The striker joins long-term absentees Michael Owen, Tom Cleverley, Anderson and the Da Silva twins on the sidelines. Danny Welbeck is also a doubt with a muscular strain.

While United were held at home to Newcastle last weekend Villa also picked up a point from their visit to the Liberty Stadium. It was another lacklustre offensive display from Alex McLeish’s side; the type of performance that sees Villa fans refuse to warm to the former Birmingham boss.

McLeish will be able to welcome Stiliyan Petrov back into the side after he missed the draw with Swansea; the Bulgarian’s availability gives the Villans a clean bill of health heading into the game.

There is no escaping the fact that in recent weeks United have been well below the high standards that they set themselves. But it is a testament to those high standards that they are still able to pick up results when they are not at their best.

With Nemanja Vidic in the side United look notably more at ease defensively. And despite having one of the potentially more potent strike forces in the league Villa are unlikely to show the ambition and guile required to break down their opponents.

Ferguson’s men have a phenomenal Premier League record at Villa Park – unbeaten in their last 15 – and can extend that run this Saturday. United are available to back at odds of 3/4 to pick up all three points, but the 9/5 on them winning without conceding looks even more appealing.
