Valencia v Chelsea Betting Preview

Back Over 2.5 goals at odds of 21/20 with 888sport

Chelsea travel to Spain this Wednesday to take on an in-form Valencia side in Champions League Group E.

The Blues bounced back from their 3-1 loss at Old Trafford 10 days ago with a 4-1 home win against Swansea at the weekend and in doing so kept pace with the two Manchester clubs at the top of the Premier League. Fernando Torres had another mixed afternoon but the red card he received will not keep him out of the action here and he’ll be hoping to extend his run of form to, at least, three goals in three games.

Daniel Sturridge will be unavailable due to a knee injury but long-term absentee Michael Essien is Andre Villas-Boas’s only other injury problem.

Valencia showed what they are capable of at the Mestalla when matching Barcelona in most areas and holding the European Champions to a 2-2 draw last Wednesday. However, defender Jordi Alba believes that Chelsea will provide a different challenge to the Catalan giants.

“We have to prepare for a different game, because Chelsea play in a distinct way,” said the Spaniard.

The game will serve as an emotional homecoming for Blues midfielder Juan Mata. The 23-year-old played 129 games for Los Che and scored 33 goals during his four years at the club. The midfielder is 11/4 to score at anytime and an industry best price of 9/1 with 888sport to get the first goal of the game.

Chelsea are made the slight favourites in the Match Odds betting at 6/4, with the Spaniards priced at 15/8 and the draw 9/4. At the odds I’d certainly look to avoid backing Valencia, but also can’t be tempted to back Chelsea at 6/4. This is probably a market best avoided.

One market where we can get involved is the Over/Under 2.5 goals betting. With Torres edging back towards his best form and Chelsea’s defence looking a little shaky – they’ve only kept clean sheets in three of eight games this season – I’m expecting to see goals this Wednesday night. Back Over 2.5 goals at odds of 21/20 with 888sport and if you’re feeling adventurous also take a small interest on Over 3.5 at odds of 11/4.
