Van Persie made 1/4 favourite for PFA award

The Dutchman has scored 27 Premier League goals

Robin van Persie has been made the 1/4 favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year Award after the Arsenal captain was named in the six-man shortlist.

The Dutchman has scored 27 Premier League goals and made 11 assists as the standout player in Arsenal’s recent resurgence, leading their battle to claim a third place finish this season.

David Silva and Wayne Rooney share second favouritism in the market at odds of 7/1, with Sergio Aguero priced at 12/1, Scott Parker 28/1 and Joe Hart completing the trio of City players in the reckoning at odds of 40/1.

“Van Persie’s goals have been absolutely imperative in Arsenal getting themselves back up to third after a transitional summer, while he’s given us a fair few headaches with punters ploughing in to him in our first scorer markets all season,” said Joe Petyt of Sky Bet.

“Aguero has also been a class act and defied any concerns over his ability to adapt to the English game, and it was no coincidence that City’s recent slump coincided with his absence”

While Aguero is an outsider in the PFA Player of the Year Award he is the 4/5 favourite in the PFA Young Player of the Year betting that is open to players aged 23 or under at the start of the campaign.

Gareth Bale is the 11/4 second-favourite to pick up the Young Player award, followed by Danny Welbeck at 3/1, Kyle Walker at 12/1, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at 14/1 and Daniel Sturridge at 16/1.
