Villa close in on Hutton

Hutton is now considered surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane

Aston Villa are closing in on the £3 million signing of Tottenham defender Alan Hutton.

The move from Villa comes following the sale of full-back Luke Young to Queens Park Rangers for £2 million earlier in the week. Hutton is now considered surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane having fallen behind Kyle Walker in the pecking order at the North London club.

Hutton, who played under Villa manager Alex McLeish when at Rangers, has made 51 appearances and scored two goals for Spurs since making a £5 million move from Glasgow back in January 2008.

If the deal is completed the Scot would be competing for a first team place with Villa youngster Chris Herd who has impressed in the early part of this season.

“I am just going to concentrate on my game and just see what happens. I just want to keep improving wherever I play,” said Herd.
