Wenger going nowhere

1/5 that Wenger will remain in charge at The Emirates

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has reiterated that north London club will not sack manager Arsene Wenger despite the club’s poor start to the season.

The Frenchman was given a vote of confidence following a poor start to the season for The Gunners. Arsenal have won only one of their opening five games of the season and are currently just one place above the relegation zone with four points.

“Arsene Wenger is not broken. To see him portrayed as an idiot is damaging - not to him or the club but to the game,” said Gazidis.

“[The criticism of Wenger] is part of this black and white perception: that you're either flying high or a broken failure. He didn't suddenly become a bad manager.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a manager who has a vision of what the game can be. To have a manager that thinks about the future is relatively rare.”

Following today’s news Ladbrokes now offer odds of 1/5 that Wenger will remain in charge at The Emirates for the entirety of this season, and odds of 3/1 that he is replaced.

Wenger has also been pushed out to odds of 11/1 in 888sport’s next Premier League manager to be sacked betting market.
