West Brom v Liverpool: Suarez to fire Reds home

Liverpool may start off slowly but look for them to come good in the second half

West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool meet at the Hawthorns in the Saturday teatime kick-off, as Roy Hodgson faces his former club for the second time since leaving Anfield having beaten them 2-1 in this fixture last season.

A win for Liverpool could take them up a place to fifth whereas the Baggies would find themselves just a point behind Kenny Dalglish’s men if they gained maximum points.

As far as Dalglish is concerned, this game ends a mixed week for the Reds as they were held to a frustrating draw at home to Premier league new-boys Norwich last weekend, but they swiftly got back on track with a come-from-behind win away at Stoke on Wednesday evening in the Carling Cup.

The team from the Midlands have significantly improved their defensive record under the guise of Hodgson. After nine games in the Premier League so far The Baggies have kept three clean sheets and only conceded 11 goals compared to last year’s total, at the same stage, of 15 with just a solitary clean sheet. However, they have struggled at the other end, netting only nine times and, with Shane Long suffering from a knee injury picked up during the win at Aston Villa last weekend, Albion may have to rely too heavily on Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie to score the goals to keep up with The Reds.

As for the men from Merseyside, they have been equally as stingy conceding one less than the home side at 10, whilst scoring 12 goals to safely secure a top-half berth heading into the second quarter of the season. And with the pair of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll up front, there is always an ominous threat in front of goal.

After their midweek exploits, Liverpool may start off slowly but look for them to come good in the second half and following his crucial double at the Britannia, Suarez looks the bet to continue his good form and score the opener.
