West Brom v Wolves: Visitors represent value

Wolves have been unfortunate in recent defeats to Liverpool and particularly Newcastle

Two out-of-form teams will take to The Hawthorns pitch for the first Black Country derby of this Premier League season.

Two wins and a draw from Wolves’ opening three games saw them temporarily take top spot in the embryonic league table. Since then they’ve lost four consecutive games and anxiety about another relegation scrap has replaced the early-season optimism.

West Brom, on the other hand, have failed to get going at any point this season and their only victory was a 1-0 away win at Norwich in early September. Baggies fans also harbour genuine concern about the possibility of another season spent scrapping at the wrong end of the table.

Striker Peter Odemwingie is a major concern for the home side, although manager Roy Hodgson moved to quash rumours that the Nigerian required surgery on an ankle injury picked up on international duty. Chris Brunt is expected to be available also following an ankle injury picked up on international duty.

Mick McCarthy has ruled out Steven Fletcher due to a calf injury while Jody Craddock and Kevin Foley could come into contention for a recall after recently returning to full training.

Recent head-to-heads at The Hawthorns don’t make for particularly pleasant reading if you’re a Wanderers fan. Not since 1996 have they managed an away victory against their neighbours.

But that could be about to change. While Wolves have been unfortunate in recent defeats to Liverpool and particularly Newcastle, West Brom have looked lacklustre against Fulham and Sunderland – aside from the opening five minutes at the Stadium of Light.

Home advantage is obviously an important factor but I don’t think that it should sway things so much so to make The Baggies Even money favourites here. As a consequence the 3/1 on a Wolves win looks particularly appealing as does the 7/4 in the Draw No Bet market that offers a degree of insurance to your bet.
