West Brom v Wolves Betting Preview

The price on a Wolves win may look generous but that is before you consider their abysmal away form.

Roy Hodgson will take his seat in the West Brom dugout, and he will be hoping to shore up The Baggies' leaky defence in this crucial Black Country derby against Wolves.

Wolves will be looking to offer more than they did in their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at The Emirates where they registered no shots on target and just two off target. At the same time West Brom threw away a 3-0 half time lead against fellow strugglers West Ham at the Hawthorns to draw 3-3.

Roy Hodgson will be looking for his team to show much more character but will be encouraged by their attacking threat. Hodgson has not been out of work long having left Liverpool in January, and will be looking to mould his side into one similar to the successful Fulham team that he built.

Wolves to have Hunt in Pack?

West Brom have Marek Cech, Youssouf Mulumbu and Steven Reid all doubtful. David Edwards is a concern for Wolves while Adlene Guedioura, Michael Kightly and Michael Mancienne are all out. Stephen Hunt is an important player for Mick McCarthy, the tenacious Irishman is a doubt for Sunday and his character is badly needed if Wolves are to get themselves out of the relegation mire.

West Brom's form at the Hawthorns this season has been decent, winning five, drawing four and losing four and the bookmakers fancy them to win this at 10/11.

The draw is 5/2 but an away win is quoted at long betting odds of 3/1. The price on a Wolves win may look generous but that is before you consider their abysmal away form. McCarthy's men have won one, drawn one and lost eleven away from Molineaux this season. The sort of form that could see the manager's position come under scrutiny.

Mexican Wave

For Hodgson to get the dream start that he needs at the Hawthorns he will be looking for their top scorer Peter Odimwingie to re-discover his early season form. The Nigerian had a blistering start to the season and has nine goals to his name; the bookies make him 5/1 to net first.

Mexican striker Carlos Vela recently joined on loan from Arsenal and has shown plenty of promise in the rare appearances he has made for the Gunners. His move to the Hawthorns is an opportunity for him to fulfil his potential and punters might fancy him to score first at 6/1.

Kevin Doyle, who scored the winner in their amazing victory over Manchester United, is 7/1 to score first for Wolves.

Roy Hodgson will need to adapt to his new role extremely quickly if he is to enjoy a dream return to management, and Sunday's game provides him an ideal opportunity to make that dream a reality.
