West Ham v Birmingham Betting Odds

Obinna now has five in his last two games after he followed up a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest with a brace against the Seasiders.

West Ham are looking for back-to-back league wins for the first time this season when Birmingham come to the Boleyn Ground this Sunday lunchtime.

This is the fourth meeting between the sides this season having fought out a 2-2 draw in the league then recording a win apiece in the Carling Cup semi-final. Birmingham's extra time victory in the most recent earned them a trip to Wembley but the three points on offer this Sunday are arguably more important.

Avram Grant is likely to stick with the same side that beat Blackpool 3-1 in midweek meaning Robbie Keane should make his home debut. Danny Gabbidon is a doubt, though, after being substituted at Bloomfield Road.

Birmingham have concerns surrounding Cameron Jerome, Barry Ferguson and Roger Johnson. Curtis Davies could make his debut if the latter is unavailable but Obafemi Martins is still awaiting a visa.

Consistently Inconsistent

The Hammers have been an ever-present fixture in the bottom three this season but could move out of the relegation zone with a win this weekend. Although Birmingham have played two games fewer than their opponents the two clubs are locked on 24 points making this a relegation six pointer of massive potential consequence.

Grant's biggest task here is to try and build on the momentum gained from that 3-1 win over Blackpool in midweek. All too often this season when West Ham have looked to have turned the corner they've thrown in a shocker. A 5-0 defeat to Newcastle following a 2-0 win over Wolves in early January offering a prime example.

For that reason betting odds of 11/10 on a West Ham win are maybe a little too short here. Birmingham are 5/2 and the draw is 23/10.

Keane to Make a Mark

The arrival of Robbie Keane at Upton Park has coincided with a run of good goalscoring form for Victor Obinna and an upturn in fortunes for The Hammers. Keane scored on his debut against Blackpool and Obinna now has five in his last two games after he followed up a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest with a brace against the Seasiders.

Don't look past these two in the goalscorers market with the on loan Tottenham striker available to back at 7/4 to score anytime and the Nigerian a generous 13/5.

Birmingham have also hit a rich goalscoring run of form and have scored eight in their last three games in all competitions. Although the magnitude of the game may lead to things being a little tight early on, odds of 11/10 on their being three goals or more are certain to have more than a few punters clambering for the loose change down the back of their sofa.

At this stage of the season there is no place to hide for either group of players and it wouldn't be too dramatic to say that this game could prove pivotal to each club's survival aspirations.
